A nice, mostly restorative, week off for my birthday:
- Definitely feel a lot more reset, having worked on various bits of life admin, and not doing any Open Source (bar one PR), not doing any tech-related reading or listening (although maybe I lie - it turns out on Monday I did listen to some pods)
- Was good having a few "admin" days and a few "nothing" days planned
- Had a nice walk around Blidworth Woods on Monday, as a treat (and it being quieter and less likely to have horses) which was nice
- Afterwards, got a slightly too-big sandwich from Deli-icious ("the brunch") and slightly regretted it with how intensely full I was π«£
- Got an alternative Asda pizza on Monday - was still nice to have somewhat-Asda-pizza on my birthday eve
- For Friday, I got our perfect pizza π₯
- Had a very nice Miss Korea takeaway on my birthday, and having the Chicken Kang Poong Gi as my main was good π
- A nice birthday spent at Eden Hall, which is a great way to spend the day
- We accidentally got our treatments the wrong way round, but they were nice
- As I was very relaxed, I kept falling asleep in the treatment and then spluttering myself awake pπ«£
- Cookie's been very happy in my office this week
- Had my first eye test in over 10 years - which was a little disappointing, but better than it could've been!
- Had a nice lunch out at Speciality afterwards
- Was nice to be quite brain-off during the week
- The only tech news I was privy to was against my will, and I didn't read into them much, leaving it for next week
- Only did a blog post this afternoon as I was updating my Neovim setup
- Last night was the first time I had anything work-adjacent pop into my head, and managed to push it out of my head until Monday
- Listening to mostly Off Menu and Taskmaster (including an Off Menu with Anna that we've not yet finished) has been nice
- I've also had my Slack, LinkedIn and Discord paused on my phone, so they've not been notifying me (or clicked through the muscle memory) which has been nice
- Spent a bit of time preparing for this year's tax return
- Starting getting all the data together, and putting some more internal documentation for me in the future
- Spent some time looking into Making Tax Digital requirements, which I don't yet need to fulfill, but am seeking insight if anyone knows of any public implementations of bridging software, as it'd be nice to implement something to work with my Ledger setup
- Had a nice pizza night on Thursday
- Was nice to share some ceremonial Sake with Paddy, and was nice to have cheesecake birthday cake π
- Spent some time doing some purely me-focussed side project-y bits
- GitHub Copilot created a web-based Matomo stats widget, which provides an alternative to my terminal-based setup, allowing me to use it when I'm out-and-about
- Including getting round to writing a
robots.txtfor this site - Spent some time letting Copilot build an IndieAuth server, with a few iterations and attempts to get something working, but haven't yet got to the point where I feel I may be comfortable moving forward with it yet
- Doing bits of life admin on Saturday made it feel like a Sunday, but then we had a whole Sunday to go π
- Had a nice walk today with Carol and Alan at Gravelly Hollow
- Caught up on some of my messages/TODOs, but still many more to go
- Made fajitas for the first time in ages which were π
- Had a nice time at the cinema for the first time in a while, with a pre-cinema Five Guys
- Doing bits of Apex Legends and life admin between games has worked quite nicely
Reading:
- Babylon's Ashes
Watched:
- (No The Expanse)
- Taskmaster (Series 7)
- Taskmaster (Series 8)
- One Piece (Series 2)
- Saturday Night Live
- Project Hail Mary
- Very, very good! Want to read the book next
- Louis Theroux: Inside The Manosphere
- Louis Theroux is very good at this, and it was a really well-done doc
- And yikes at the losers who believe in "the manosphere", as well as the dickheads who peddle it to sell shit and generally take advantage of others
