Week Notes 25#50

• My episode on the Open Source Security podcast came out and was a good listen
• In the run up to Christmas (with Anna's family Christmas next weekend), I've made some good progress with my office to make it "guest ready", and got a few more presents sorted
• Well, 73 days is my new record for a re-org 😬
• A very frustratingly slow haircut, being there for ~90 minutes (almost entirely waiting to be seen) and still not super happy with it
• Managed to get my submission in for Changelog's State of the Log
• Made some much needed changes to opengraph-mf2.tanna.dev
  • Got some tweaks to the u-url handling which has been causing me pain for years when there are URLs that don't match and it means some manual handling is needed before i.e. I can post a Listen
  • I would quite like to rewrite it in Go (especially with it being safer if it's not-as-updated), but updating a Node 14.x set of code (in plain JS, too) was easier than sitting down to blat the code out
• In Kingshot:
  • It's been a tough Alliance Brawl and we lost at the very end
  • I decided to spend my first money on the game (after 158 days of playing) for the £5 "ultra value monthly pack"
• Saw Rob Beckett on Wednesday - was OK, but not quite what we'd expected
• Live at Christmas was really good! Was a great evening with John Robins, Phil Wang (who we've booked to see next year), Sharon Wanjohi, Lucy Beaumont, Sam Campbell (who we're also seeing next year) and Simon Amstell
  • We had some great seats (but not great when you're running a few mins late 😬) and were at risk of being called on - John Robins noticed Anna nudging me when he was asking people "does anyone work in AI" - and were in the 'splash zone' for Sam Campbell 😅
• Some late nights this week with comedy gigs and Knives Out, so hoping to try and catch up a little
• Cookie's been very good and chill while we've been out, being at daycare and then having Morph in the living room too 🥰
• Had a nice walk with Carol and Alan today - but the dogs got very mucky, so we had to properly wash Cookie in the bath
  • She's very soft now, which I'm sure won't last!
• Today is my 5 year anniversary of being a homeowner - still remember trying to navigate it all at the height of the COVID lockdowns, and the pressure of "what if you get COVID and can't come down for Christmas"
  • And yes, still am very fortunate to be able to have a mortgage for my own home (at my age)
• Mostly good pizza (on Saturday) which felt more substantial than usual
