Week Notes 25#37

My first between-jobs week:

  • Generally trying to not push myself and give myself some space, given I'd gotten fairly burned out and my brain has been a little mushy
    • Although it'd have been nice to get a load of stuff done, executive dysfunction is a bitch, and I didn't want to overload myself and inevitably make things worse
  • Some absolutely awful weather - including a hailstorm while I was trying to get food delivered, and a delivery driver who didn't want the bags to get shredded 🫣
  • Spent some time on $REDACTED, and had some good chats with $REDACTED
  • I've been almost entirely switched off from Elastic, only thinking about it once when I had a DM from someone about something Elastic-y
  • Finished off my blog-to-LinkedIn syndication improvements, using the APIs instead of Zapier's RSS syndication
    • It explains why my URLs from my shares (via Zapier) weren't working well - LinkedIn had changed their APIs, and presumably, Zapier hadn't updated their code to handle it
    • But goddamn, does the LinkedIn API make me frustrated
    • I'd hoped to do a "comment on the post after publishing it, to share the URL in a comment" (as "the algorithm" demands) but it isn't possible to access those APIs unless you're a real business, which is a bit ridiculous
  • With the syndication better, I've written a couple of blog posts, partly to test it out, as well as some usual levels of Blogumentation
  • Seen some traffic from my Starless blog post, but less than I'd hoped - hopefully at work they're seeing better numbers!
  • There was a police plane flying around our area one night, which was rather disturbing, and it's unclear what it was looking for
  • Luckily managed to play some good Wilcard games in Apex Legends before the bat got removed - it was OP, but I enjoyed it for some late-game shenanigans
  • Made some light website tweaks
  • My intent is that between jobs, I'll be doing zero work on Renovate - as I'll soon be getting paid for it, can't do free work like a chump πŸ˜…
    • But I did break this, to at least raise a couple of thoughts that came into my mind, such as setting better best practices around NPM dependencies given recent supply chain security attacks
    • (it's also been a good sign of my brain relaxing a bit, and being able to think of other things)
    • And for each of these things, I've been making it a habit to raise them when I'm on my work machine - not because I need to, but to try and nudge me towards "this is now work"
  • Nice time at the pub on Thursday
  • Had a little bit of a disappointing Asda pizza
  • Had a chill weekend with the pets while Anna and Sarah were at a sewing retreat
    • We all had a pretty chill time
    • Cookie and Morph spent a lot of time co-existing, almost cuddled up together πŸ₯°
    • Almost fell asleep on the sofa with them at one point on Saturday
    • At one point, Morph was laying on top of my hot water bottle, and loving it 😻
  • In Kingshot, it was my first Kingdom of Power (aka Kingdom vs Kingdom, aka KvK) - didn't bother in the Castle Battle, but had fun doing the other things during the week
  • Packing for holiday!

Watched:

  • Superstore
  • Archer
    • I finally got around to catching up on to the finale - I didn't even realise I was watching Archer: Into the Cold until I was ~1/3 through it and was like "when's the end of the episode"
    • I thought it was a good end, and sad to see it over
  • (No The Bear this week)
  • (No Taskmaster this week)
