My last week at Elastic, chilly with the boiler packing in and a nice weekend with my parents:
- Didn't sleep particularly well on Sunday night, and woke up ~0400 and noticed the WiFi was down 🤔 which was greatly concerning to me
- But also not great because we're both meant to be working later that day
- When I woke up later - for the usual start of my day - I tried to get it up and running again, and realised that there'd been a powercut overnight which is why I couldn't get the router back on - I flipped the RCD (which had flipped) on the circuit breaker, and all was good again
- Also of note - my Belkin extension lead that had reviews saying "this stopped working after ~3 months" (which I've had for ~10 years, all the way from uni!) - may have partially died but I've not investigated fully
- However, we missed that the boiler didn't turn back on, until a cold shower on Tuesday morning after coasting on already warm water
- Meant I had a freezing cold shower before seeing James and Aash, and needed to warm my feet after it with the hair dryer 🥶
- But we got it seen to, and we've got options for resetting it - until we can get it replaced - but it's not been coming on very reliably. At least we've found out that we have an immersion heater for our water, and how to use it, so that's helped a bit
- Was nice to see James and Aash, although it was an awfully rainy day, which we mostly got caught in
- Had a fun time at the pub quiz at Jamcafe
- Was good fun and nice to see (some of) the gang
- And we came 4th!
- Had a nice Hey! Danna, but given we thought the quiz was starting at 1900 (it was actually at 1930), I found rush eating ramen to be particularly difficult 🫣
- Re-discovered the nice Korean Chicken Pops from Wasabi (from Sainsburys)
- My feeds for Bridgy Fed have returned so I'll start seeing Fediverse folks' posts again
- It was my last week at Elastic!
- Tried to do the last bits of handing over of knowledge to anyone who was willing
- I managed to finish my writeup on the Elastic blog about a particularly gnarly incident last year, which has been something I'd been largely looking at doing since the cause of the incident, so it was nice to have it out, although it doesn't seem to have gone viral as much as I'd have hoped
- Had a nice going away call and some very nice messages - thanks all!
- Had some nice final 1-1s with members of the team, and a nice last call with Joe to round out my time
- A very nice but sad final call with Ellie and Linh - gonna miss you two, significantly 💜💔
- Did the very important post-leaving things like updated LinkedIn and my /now and CV pages 😹
- Did my exit survey on the sofa with Morph which was nice, but he wasn't particularly willing to let me do it without him in the way on my lap
- No Asda pizza on Friday - there was no member of staff when I went 😵
- But got a nice Iskender from Rakki Rakkas to go with Thunderbolts☆
- A nice weekend with my parents, for one of the 70th birthday presents for my Mum
- I'd booked a private tour at Bromley House Library which was awesome - some very interesting information, some cool old books, and a great time overall. Very very tempted to join as private members, followed by a meal at Hart's
- My beard trimmer died (probably after ~5 years of life?) - but fortunately I was mostly trimmed so didn't feel too rough-looking for going out on Saturday
- Went around the garden centre today with the parents
- The first CHAOSS Package Metadata Working Group was good
- Got my new Macbook for Mend, so done some initial setup this week
- The UK government did the emergency alert system, which was on my mind around the time it was happening so didn't surprise us as much as other folks
- Morph's been on the sofa a lot more this week which is nice - both overnight, but also during the day, and possibly a sign of the cold weather
- A good session with Kate, and appreciative of her dog sitting Cookie on Saturday
