Week Notes 25#35

In new job:

• Announced my new job - that I'm joining Mend to work on Renovate (CLI + Enterprise) 🚀

  • I was able to get it published just before I left for the pub with C1 folks, but:
    • A GitLab CI bug meant that the "deploy" agent was stuck, which I had to force a stop + unlocking of the deploy queue
    • In the rush, I'd incorrectly copy-pasted some Elastic-specific data for my salary details, which didn't help
    • This meant that on the taxi to the pub, I was frantically trying to fix it - not great! Especially as the web editor does not work well with Firefox, but thankfully Chrome worked, so I could correct it
    • Had a lovely message from Rhys on LinkedIn
  • Had a lot of nice Internet points to congratulate, and I think now most folks I know at work have seen the news (and in the engineering-wide Slack channel) so I don't feel like that many folks will be blindsided when I disappear next week!

• My work Mac should be arriving tomorrow

• My penultimate week at work

  • And what was meant to be my first week between jobs, but contract discussions had pushed things back a couple of weeks

• Meta-y, but in Week Notes:

  • While on the train home, thought I'd try again at getting bin/week-notes to work - it turns out the script from my first attempt in 2025#19 did actually work all along - it's that I've been incorrectly numbering Week Notes all year!
  • I corrected it, but it may mean your feed readers see a lot of change in the last day

• Had a nice time catching up with Tulio, Steve, Lewis, Tushar, Lewis, and Chris at the pub on Tuesday

  • There was a couple who brought their pet bird, which was a little distracting

• Had a nice pub night on Thursday with the usual gang

• Finally got to see inside the "doggy school bus" that Cookie gets to go on 🥰

• A right of passage for a new driver - I honked the horn for the first time! A cab turned off the main road by ours, then didn't move more than a foot down the road - blocking the junction - which was frustrating

• The car got serviced this week - which was originally meant to be during my between-jobs phase and a little easier, but instead led to being a wild day with the car, cleaners and a lot of meetings

• One night, there was a fair bit of excitement as a sizeable spider ran past my face (which was generally trying to annoy Cookie) in the living room, and we needed to safely get it out

• Felt the burnout on Friday evening with a ~2 hour train journey but no energy to pick up anything 💔

• Had a lovely weekend staying with Rich and Soph in Cambridge 💜

• Getting these Week Notes out early - I'll probably do some updates later (when I'm home) but these are the main things of note

• Although I'm not a fan of suggested subreddits on reddit (and use Ublock Origin to filter these out), there are a couple that get through - /r/iso8601 was one that made me chuckle at the randomness of it
