Week Notes 24#22

A three day week, Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart and a nice weekend in Cambridge:

  • With the bank holiday Monday, Anna and I had a nice date day in town, going to Pho for - you guessed it - pho πŸ˜‹

  • Stopped in at a couple of shops, including John Lewis to look at TVs and got a chance to properly look at some and - although I felt the impulsiveness to buy it there-and-then - decided to wait and look into it a bit more

  • While getting sold on the TVs, there was a video playing which included a stretch of the latest Ratchet and Clank game which enthralled me and then absent mindedly I was looking up R&C and noticed that there's a PC port πŸ‘€

  • Played a little Zelda this week, and a lot of Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart since discovering I could play it on PC - but I've actually been playing it on my Steam Dec, and had fun on Thursday with a slightly longer lunch to excitedly play it

    • Now it means there's a bit more contention for who gets to play on the TV, too πŸ˜…
  • But in TV news, we've ordered the new TV (Sony Bravia XR XR55A95L) and very excited for it to come on Wednesday πŸ‘€ Been using our old one for ~10 years now, and have been talking of an upgrade for a while, so it's nice to have finally had the headspace to do the upgrade!

  • At work, moving to self-hosted Renovate is progressing and I've been drafting the intent for it

  • Took Cookie for a walk on Wednesday - a little later than I'd hoped - but tried out voice noting my thought process for the design doc for πŸ‘† and found that quite useful

  • Had a good time at Shaun's talk at DevOps Notts

  • Feeling a bit of pressure with oapi-codegen's pending release, and hoping to spend a chunk of this week getting the last couple of important things over the line so I can release, move to the new org, and then follow fast on the other issues piling up

  • Got my/our first sponsor for oapi-codegen come through πŸ‘ (the one had mentioned they were up for it within ~12 hours of the post going up) and will be getting them onto the README before we release

  • Had a good catchup with Abby

  • Addicted - Zerb Acid VIP has been on loop a lot this week

  • On Thursday evening I did a talk at work about dependency-management-data which was good, especially given the recent work we've done to make it more real-time and useful, and hopefully drumming up some more interest with folks in Engineering Productivity, and adjacent roles, as well as chatting through the architecture and infrastructure in a team-only meeting

  • Had a lovely weekend in Cambridge with Anna's sister's family

    • Made my first drive to Anna's parents which was pretty good - especially as it's the first time I've driven for an hour continuously, since doing driving lessons, and there were some fast roads which I've not done in a bit
    • We dropped Cookie there as it was probably for the best we could go unencumbered with her chaos, especially as ...
    • We went to Strawberry Fields which was nice, albeit the weather wasn't the best - no rain, but fairly chilly with the wind, and definitely would not have been good with Cookie. It was a bit overstimulating for me, let alone her πŸ˜…
    • Had some fun time with the niblings who were very cute, and enjoyed Austin telling us all about his toys getting stuck in the mud (after the IRL van getting stuck in the mud earlier that week!)
    • Was lovely to see Rich, who was able to join us for a bit πŸ₯°
  • Cookie's been super cute and sleepy since getting back from the grandparents

  • Didn't do much (any?) Ring Fit this week, but I did instead do a load of situps / core exercises which hurt for a few days, but was good, and planning to do the same this coming week

Watched:

  • How I Met Your Mother
  • Some kids shows with the niblings
