This is so inspiring: GOV.UK really sweating the details here on performance, removing 32KB of jQuery for a ~5-10% improvement on various metrics for low-powered devices twitter.com/therealnooshu/β¦Post details
π§΅As I mentioned last week GOV.UK removed jQuery as a dependency for all frontend apps, meaning 32 KB of minified & compressed JS was removed. So let's see what difference this has made for users by examining our RUM data. Thread will mainly focus on JS CPU time.Matt Hobbs v2.0 ππππ (@TheRealNooshu)Thu, 31 Mar 2022 11:05 +0000

Not to dismiss what colleagues in Government Digital Service (GDS) and Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) are doing, but there's also a tonne of excellent engineers across the government delivering some really excellent stuff who deserve praise too!
My colleague Bethan wrote about the work we're currently doing on Federated API Discovery across government. Very much recommend a read about why we're doing it, and we'll be doing more posts in the future about progress, but until then, you can check out the repo
Someone asked me for advice on how to land an interview @GDSTeam π― I think everyone should have access to these tips My opinions, not official policy π§΅Harry Vos (@vosageroll)Thu, 06 Jan 2022 18:26 GMT
Really happy to see the Test For Coronavirus service now making notifications of tests optional - a sign of great #ServiceDesign following user feedback, and continually improving the service. Not only does it remind me something I've literally just done, but saves a lot of money for not sending notifications to people who don't need them. I appreciate that some folks may still want it, especially if you're testing for someone else, so it's great to get that level of control
It only takes me incredible 33 seconds (!) to order a free lateral flow test kit on @GOVUK β from searching for the service to arriving on the confirmation screen. Donβt ever tell me again that private sector services are the benchmark. They are not. This is it. #ServiceDesignMartin Jordan (he/him) π² π± (@Martin_Jordan)Fri, 26 Nov 2021 21:59 GMT
