I’m leaving my role as the Product Lead for the Go Language at Google. I’m super proud of everything the Go team has accomplished in the last six years, and I’ve never been more excited for Go’s future. Was just asked to apply to be a Google Women Techmakers Ambassador. No way. I am not using the little social reach I have to promote the harmful work of Google. And using inclusivity to draw women (or any marginalised folk) into promoting Google is 🤮

PSA: Do not use EAP therapy resources. This is some of the legislation we are working on in Washington... hopefully federally. @chelseyglasson brought it to light that Google is using her EAP therapy notes against her... and the fact that they had access at all is alarming.

Yikes. TL;DR: Employee talks to HR about discrimination. Google suggests (on-campus) counseling. Google has access to notes from those sessions (!!) and used them against her in court (!!!). So much for that employer-provided "perk". Story here: nytimes.com/2021/07/28/us/…

The full postmortem of the Google outage this week is now up: - incomplete migrations can be dangerous - it continues to baffle me that Google systems aren’t designed to minimize the blast radius. - Automated tools shouldn’t have the ability to make *global* config changes.
