@ppatel@mstdn.social People don't talk enough about how fucking shit CAPTCHA is. It doesn't even catch spam effectively. In my last contract I argued and argued to replace it with a honey pot. We did so and went from 100 plus spam emails a day to zero, and got rid of the accessibility barrier with it.

Is there any evidence that captchas actually work? I suspect they have little to no effect, but this is based on nothing but my personal dislike of them.

Soon we'll be solving AI-generated captchas by trying to figure out what the machine wants us to think the answer is

“CAPTCHAs don’t prove you’re human – they prove you’re American” shkspr.mobi/blog/2017/11/c… I wrote this rant 3 years ago, and things are getting worse. Yesterday I had to identify crosswalks, highway signs, and overhead traffic lights. Do self driving cars only work in the USA?
