Phew, that's a lot of traffic 😅 What happens when a blog post goes viral? (5 mins read).

Looking at some of the things that happen when my posts have gone viral, from how much traffic it brings, to the various sources of traffic.

Finally sorted out @PlausibleHQ analytics, and I'm amazed how much that "Everything I Googled in a week" post is still popping up all over the place!Sophie Koonin (@type__error)Sat, 12 Feb 2022 16:22 GMT
I made a little app: it sits in your notification area and strips all that utm_stuff=blah&utm_banner=ohno tracking link stuff off of links on your clipboard, so when you paste the link to your mates to share it, all that stuff is gone. Simple but useful! kryogenix.org/code/utm_no/Stuart Langridge (@sil)Sat, 13 Nov 2021 19:25 GMT
My app utm_no removes utm_whatever=blah tracking params from copied links. It COULD turn t.co links copied from twitter into real links, removing twitter tracking, but it must hit Twitter for that: a privacy problem. Would you want that?Post details

I don't like looking at analytics too much because it deters me away from focusing on the quality of my blog posts, but it's that time of year where I have a quick peak! This is how 2020 compares to last year. 🤯 Thank you all for taking the time to follow along💜 #bypawlean https://t.co/x3j5wjFAB8Post details
👋🏻 So many new friends, hey! Thanks for reading. 💪🏼 My annual health post is always very popular (it is that random spike in users, this year it was 400) ✨ "Normal" posts get about 40-50 views ⏰ People aren't just clicking away instantly - thanks for reading my essays lolPauline is taking a break 😴 (@paulienuh)Tue, 24 Dec 2019 13:40 GMT

Developers adding multiple third-party analytics to their pages like they really want to find out how much visitors hate slow websites.

Just removed Google Analytics from my blog. Been sat on the fence for a long time. But then, I've not looked at my analytics in as much time. When I thought of it like that, it was easy.@rem (@rem)Wed, 16 Dec 2020 20:13 GMT
I've been posting a blog every day this year. It has been fun and stressful. But I'm in sight of my stretch-goal of ONE MILLION page views over the year. I need ~3k views per day for the rest of December. Better write some Controversial Tech Opinions™. shkspr.mobi/blogTerence Eden (@edent)Tue, 01 Dec 2020 08:52 GMT
Interesting read, and gives me thoughts about how to replace Matomo with maybe something more minimal (at the cost of reporting maybe interesting data)
