Reminder that @GitHub works with ICE, and not only do they work with ICE, but @natfriedman said they didn't know exactly which part of ICE they work with...well turns out they did know: spoilers, it's a part that separates children from their parents. latimes.com/business/techn…Post details
John Kelly, then White House chief of staff, told @radiobigtex in 2018: "The children will be taken care of, put into foster care or whatever." In addition to losing track of parents, the United States can't locate 360 children. Or rather, "about 360." npr.org/2020/10/21/926…Steve Inskeep (@NPRinskeep)Wed, 21 Oct 2020 12:22 +0000

My comedy videos are now being mass reported and taken down from @LinkedIn as "hate speech" if it wasn't clear how angry it makes some people to see a woman calling out their precious industry. When the "safety tools" are being used as silencing weapons effectively, then what?Emily (@EmilyKager)Mon, 19 Oct 2020 17:35 +0000
super cool how you can contribute to open source today and tomorrow your code will be in weapons huh

Can't even escape this nonsense because I'm so incredibly aware that the industry has made doing OSS core to career growth, same as using GitHub, and so I can loudly shout "STOP" from the roofs but without offering newcomers an alternative, I'm just telling them to not get a job

Responsibility is good, yes. We should establish some legal standards for how people can reasonably understand what is being done with their data when they sign up for a service. We did this in the EU, it is called GDPR. This feature is in breach of GDPR and the fines are massiveAndrew Seward (@MrAndrew)Mon, 19 Oct 2020 16:01 +0000
