I don’t understand why more people aren’t talking about this. They don’t supply work phones, nor give a reasonable reimbursement for a separate device, but expect employees to allow ALL network traffic to be monitored. The alternative is to have no access on mobile.

Very hot take - your employer should never force you to use then install security monitoring on a personal device which can be legitimately used to watch porn, sext, perform financial transactions, call your sponsor, or anything else that you reasonably could be blackmailed for.

Unit testing requires significantly less skill, time investment, and infrastructure than any other form of testing and almost any other form of verification. So anybody can pick it up and apply it to any project. That's why it's the go-to technique

One thing I've wondered about is why software folks so often use unit testing as their go-to testing technique. When I've worked at companies that ship few enough bugs that it would be considered a failure to have one serious bug in a year, unit testing has been a last resort.

I still write code for a bunch of reasons. Some of that even runs in production (mainly via open source contributions) or inspires code that does. Prototypes for discussion, demonstrating something to a customer, demos, data analysis, exploration.

I’ve been told by some VCs not to code at all, because of how it will make me look “Junior.” I learn so much more by actually writing the code than by reading about the product. This may seem obvious to a programmer. But I promise you it’s not obvious to most VCs.
