A part of "welcome aboard" that Perl got really really right: explicitly pointing out that it's okay to start with "baby talk" simplistic code if it gets the job done, and that your style evolves as you learn. Way too many language communities only want to win over skilled devs.

When I ran Perl Training Australia with @pjf, for Windows we'd install Padre (Perl IDE) and the ActiveState perl.exe and we were good to go. Students could write and run code straight away. Later we'd show them how to add new modules and that was easy too.

In all seriousness, I have to apologise for my bad docs actually causing problems. It's humbling and has caused me become better by increments. More recently I've hurt people by not being clear about expectations for docs, and the why's. It's not easy but that's no excuse.
