There's a running joke on Reddit about a massively multiplayer online game called "Outside," which is literally just going outside and interacting with other people and existing in society.

Hey, so, I've been a bit shy about announcing this, but I'm writing a book! It's called the Staff Engineer's Path. It is, not surprisingly, about Staff Engineering! I'm really excited about it 🤩 Want to read some? The intro and first chapter are here: oreilly.com/library/view/t…Tanya Reilly (@whereistanya)Wed, 27 Oct 2021 23:54 +0000

I am hugely Facebook critical but don't think it's appropriate to post about how everyone who works there is evil/should leave/etc. Just because you personally wouldn't take a job there everyone has their own reasons. Strange you should say that. The protocols I use are alive and well, and they give me part of what I need from a community. I do feel good too, and that is part of the story, but to dismiss something you personally don't care for or use seems uncalled for.

For me, the Indieweb is two things: a collection of concepts and ideas (e.g. OwnYourData); and a community with great people. Both offer me a lot, so please don't say "never provide anything to anyone" - There's more alive than dead.

Still blows my mind how people increasingly think the answer to their OSS problems is to harass and abuse the maintainers (aka who can fix their problems). The abuse gets exponentially worse towards non white/cis/men maintainers. This is the “normal”. OSS is broken. twitter.com/mikemcquaid/st…Post details

This is an excellent point I never thought about. Why in the world don't we use SSH keys more?

OMG YES YES YES If you are into signing git commits, here's your answer! Also, I'm happy any time I see SSH signatures in use. Every developer has SSH keys! We have robust tooling and hardware for them! They are simple!
