A lot of effort has gone into explaining to the world how tech works. That's nice, but what we *really* need is to explain to tech people how the world works. I knew that many in tech struggle with understanding infrastructure, but the reactions to @tobie are worse.

Two things I keep in mind. RSUs are potential money with risk. Options are the Schrödinger’s cat of money and are more likely to be worthless than not. If you’re new to offers with these things as part of comp, it’s good to be aware of. They won’t pay your rent.

This. Never ever take an offer that’s so low on cash salary and accept the argument that equity is ‘part of pay’. It is. But base salary is what’s supposed to pay your living expenses.
