As a tech writer, I always err on the side of providing the basic command or giving an explanation. As soon as I start assuming what the reader knows, I’ve failed them. I’m in the business of teaching, not making them feel stupid.

If you are straight and cisgendered, over the next few years you may start seeing and hearing LGBTQ people a lot less. It may be very gradual and subtle, and therefore hard for you to notice. So, I'm going to say now, while you can still see and hear me- this was deliberate.
