its so depressing that a man can't manage a system of precarity and excess mortality organized solely for shareholder wealth for 20 very profitable years without occasionally getting shot to death at 6:45am in midtown new york by a person dressed in a hooded jacket. what has become of this country?
Young-career me: who has time for languages with strong typing? Mature-career me: who has time for languages without strong typing?
@sean@scoat.es @markstory@mastodon.social type inference also helps a lot here. You get strong, static typing without having to specify. That wasn’t widely available until the mid-2000s.
Thanks very much, that's very nice to hear, especially from a complete stranger 😁
I'll be sharing these updates with my team on Monday, and this deffo fills me with more confidence, thank you!
No, no, I’m not pirating that. I’m training the learning model in my brain.

Attached: 1 image Two years later. Want to know one of the major reasons Mastodon didn't catch on with journalists and large website owners? It is *invisible* in referrer statistics. Here's my blog from the last month. BlueSky now sends me more traffic than Bing. How much traffic does Mastodon send? It is impossible to know due to the "noreferrer" header in all links. (I'm not saying your privacy isn't important. But you can't build a community if no-one knows you exist.)
Alas, #SpotifyWrapped is out and is interesting! Did not expect Grafix as my top listen, but given the top songs of 2024 for me, it makes sense!
I'll be more interested to see what happens when I get my Spotify data dump at the end of the year and dig into it as I usually do, and I'm looking at tweaking some of the breakdown to possibly graph my listens / top artists month-by-month
The NotebookLM AI summary of my Wrapped data was a bit uncanny 🤔
Something I've been working on on-and-off for a couple of months is some tweaks to my Manual of Me, prompted by getting a new manager, and wanting to rethink the "things you should know when working with me", as well as delving much more into how #ADHD can affect my work, and some more reflections - and I'm glad that I've finally put the finishing touches on those updates.
Also re-reading my blog post from when I first created it, it's wild to think that this was the first time I'd started using Classless.css, which is now a staple of my microsites!
I want to give you this hadith, as reworded by my friend: "If you're planting a flower and you look up to see that the world is ending, finish planting the flower."

@jasonkoebler@mastodon.social just wait until they learn about archive.org and all the LLMs that have the data and … at that point CEOs and powerful folk now get interested in right to be forgotten GDPR ideas. This smacks of privacy from video rental data stinging congress people from way back when and now they act. Sigh.

Current me is rapidly becoming future me, and that problem hasn’t magically gone away or become someone else’s problem yet.

All jokes aside it's really fucked up to see so many people on here celebrating murder. No one here is the judge of who deserves to live or die. That's the job of the AI algorithm the insurance company designed to maximise profits on your health and no one else
I mean he did pump 3 hot loads into another man in broad daylight, kinda asking for fanfic

Out of the 561,454 projects OpenSSF has listed in their criticality_score project, for which they generate a "criticality score" for each single one, a certain hobby project is currently clocking in as number 100. (yeah, I mean #curl) https://github.com/ossf/criticality_score
Did three major adultings within an hour*. Witness my hyperfocus superpower. *after not doing them for weeks and months and years in one case. I will (again) learn nothing from this.

Who pays for the future of infrastructure? In this special episode, I spoke to Bobby DeSimone, founder and CEO of Pomerium, about how he feels like infrastructure and security both have to be open source — but then, what does that mean about the future of the financial support for infrastructure...
