Atlas (/ˈætləs/) is a Titan condemned to hold up the heavens or sky for eternity. I don't have a deep meaning for this one, only life is short and you should definitely get the funny tattoo. The saggier my butt gets, the funny this is gonna be. That's what I call an investment.Jess is a mess - 🏳️🌈 (@WhyJessWhyJess)Sun, 19 Feb 2023 08:55 GMT
I’ve said it before and I’m sure I’ll say it many more times: I like my job, I’m good at it, and I don’t understand why society thinks I don’t deserve a living wage for it.

RIP Nichelle Nichols. To tell you what this woman means to me. This is a picture of her and I in November of 1986 around the premiere of Star Trek IV. I was so nervous. She was so gracious. I then brought my kids and my mom to meet her 30 years later. Rest in Power.

I know that I'm probably end up leaving where I work in the next few years because of my own personal interests around digital sovereignty (and truly, a want to move to communal structures of governance) but the more I think about it, the obsession of mine towards using electricity and silicon to help people self-govern is very utopian. If we can't do it with sheets of paper, a touch-screen interface won't help. I might be burned by the state of digital things and might not have enough bandwidth to keep hoping for better things. But maybe. (https://jacky.wtf/2023/2/ci5g)

Attached: 1 image An interesting thing about Andreesen’s little rant about the “woke mind virus” is: this guy has a *job*. Bazillions of people who also have jobs keep their wacko opinions to themselves, because, well, they are aware it would hurt them in the pocketbook. It alarms me that the Andreesen class thinks that implausible claims that AI would share his prejudices won’t cause investors to shy away from him. He must assume tribal affinity pushes aside profit motive. Huh. Who woulda thunk it?

who "wears the pants" in the relationship isn't about gender or income. it's about who gets dressed to get the food delivery when the driver leaves it too far from the door

I'm going to say this again: Domestic violence victims need SMS-based 2FA. People without "smart" devices who use social media on shared computers need SMS-based 2FA. SMS-based 2FA is also 75%+ of 2FA users. They will simply stop using 2FA altogether with changes like this.Post details
Useful information. Also, yes, you should use 2FA for every online account you have; using a secure app for 2FA is smarter than using unsecure texts; and if Twitter ever tries to take away all 2FA methods unless you have a subscription, leave the site. theverge.com/23606430/how-t…John Scalzi (@scalzi)Mon, 20 Feb 2023 19:41 GMT

These takes are in such a terrible techno bubble that we fully forget that most hostile account take overs happen when a relationship goes south. Unpopular opinion: sick days are for when you’re sick, not preventative “mental health” days. Skipping work has a sharply negative impact on your students and colleagues. Popular opinion: when I worked in Denmark, we didn’t get a limited amount of sick days bc as they told me, “you don’t know when you’re going to be sick.” Give people freedom and respect and they will have better mental health. Don’t limit sick days at all.

I don’t understand the attraction of being able to talk to computers using breezy casual conversational language; I’ve been telling these little digital bastards what to do for decades using extremely precise formalised language and they still get it wrong
Funny enough, not all CEOs or exec teams feel they need to take a pay cut when they decide their staff are too expensive and need to be laid off. Some even explicitly tell you that.
If you work at a company that just laid-off a bunch of your coworkers, at your next all hands meeting, ask your CEO how much of a pay cut they are taking for the next 3 years.
