In better news, just got an update from Github Sponsorship system -- there is now a new non-trivial recurring contribution by a corporate user. And that makes it 2nd substantial corporate contribution for Jackson project. Looks like GH Sponsors might become a revenue stream?

Every company has tech debt, but Twitter 1.0 had extensively invested (pioneered even) many mechanisms to safely test and deploy changes (including many types of config changes) in prod. Guess all those thousands of engineers were actually doing something worthwhile, after all.

Sure, when you just write out every outage we’ve had this year and then mention that there were other issues not even included in the list it sounds bad. But what if you DIDN’T write them out like this? Wouldn’t look so bad then, would it?

Thinking of the time Elon publicly fired an Android engineer for saying that the app was slow because of technical debt and a full rewrite is needed to address perf problems. 3 months on, Elon himself proposes a full rewrite himself, because a config change caused an outage. 😅

Ok I have to say this as someone who still codes, by hand, everyday. Using terms like "brittle for no good reason" to justify tight deadlines and/or not doing regression testing makes you sound like you don't know anything about Software Engineering

Now there is a Sidekick, who’s pitch is that it’s a “productivity browser”. Today it's launching a host of features geared to ADHD sufferers and the attention distracted more generally. Sidekick was a 2020 Y Combinator cohort member , and in March 2021 they raised $2M in a round led by Kleiner Perkins.
