While I understand this advice, I'd adjust it. It's perfectly reasonable to take pride in your work and feel valid emotions when it's replaced. I would amend this to say that code is like a relationship. Just because it doesn't last forever doesn't mean it wasn't valuable.

My manager pointed out something very valuable in a presentation today... All of your code will end up being deleted or replaced with other code eventually, so don't get too attached or emotional about your code!
