There are plenty of words you won’t use because other people might find them offensive. Adapting how we present our messages to ensure they are received in the spirit they intended is a basic communication skill. Why wouldn’t you do this for the word “guys”?

Don't use the word "simple" to describe how to do something, especially if you don't know how to do it yourself. What's simple to you isn't necessarily simple to someone else.

Hmm... Not great... I know its just a word, but, it's not at all inclusive, and worse can rightly be a trigger for some too. There are so many better words to use, I like @shanselman's "friends", I tend to just use "everyone". Being "used to saying" something is at best lazy.

Glasgow University has confirmed they are aware of two significant clusters of Covid-19 in their student accommodation buildings. They say the number of cases since the start of term is 124 but “the actual number is likely to be higher”. 600+ students are self-isolating.
