Happy New Year, friends! 🎉 Over the last two years, I’ve been debating if I should even write a wrap-up of my year given that these days, you can do it with a 60-second Instagram Reel (guilty 🙋🏻‍♀️…

@Edent @tommorris Apparently it's a library which, given a forename and a "country", makes a guess as to the gender of people with that name. So the whole concept is just fundamentally broken from beginning to end, and the "countries" list including "East Frisia", "Swiss", and "Kazakh Uzbek" is just extra bonus lulz.

Who on earth is going to click the AI button purposefully on a Windows Keyboard. Also, how the fuck did this get accepted? You’re modifying the experience of long time users of Microsoft devices for a stinking key to open a stinking thing that will be dead in a few years. You are really gonna pay to manufacturer all these keyboards? You’re gonna be the first person to have to sunset a physical device? More money than sense

Attached: 1 video Before the holidays, we added a 'festive' output format to #Regal, which presents you with this glorious ASCII art animation when the linter has nothing to complain about. This is software relied on by banks, btw. It's OK to be silly — just make sure it's opt-in. Thanks to @charlieegan3 for working on that.

It's kind of funny to me how when I first discovered the furry fandom in the 90s it's because I believed myself to be an animal in a human body and most folks in the fandom were like "nah that isn't a thing" and since then I've come to accept that I'm human and fast forward 25 years and now there's a big and growing movement where it's like most furries seem to identify as nonhuman at a spiritual level and it's weird to be the outlier who *doesn't*

In 2009, I join Twitter. I make friends there. I can see their posts. Twitter has a Nazi problem. I pre-emptively join Mastodon. But I don’t really use it yet. Elon Musk buys Twitter. My friends start leaving. I no longer see their posts. I want to see my friends’ posts. - I find my friends again on Mastodon. Now I have two apps to keep track of. But I can see my friends’ posts again. My instance admins get in a fight. Friends’ instances defederate from mine. I can no longer follow them, nor they me. I am told about this by a friend who noticed. There is no indication given by the software. I am not notified of the connections I’ve lost. I want to see my friends’ posts. - A friend invites me to their instance. I accept, and migrate my profile across. I re-follow missing friends I can remember. And I can see my friends’ posts again. A friend posts photos on her instance. But those photos are not visible on mine. Her profile appears, to me, devoid of images. My new instance seemingly media-blocks hers. There is no indication given by the software. - I just want to see my friends’ posts. Am I wrong to want that? - https://moonbase.lgbt/blog/i-want-to-see-my-friends-posts/
