This is a terrible way to interview people. Not everyone has the time (or desire!) to work on personal or open source projects. Judging candidates based on work you expect them to have done in their spare time is unfair & will exclude huge groups of people.

Pulumi's PTO policy is now a three week *minimum*, plus a company-wide week off each summer and winter. This is rad and I'd love to see more companies adopting a similar policy rather than just "unlimited PTO," where employees might not feel like they can actually take time off.
