Loaded up Oxygen Not Included this morning, it being the weekend, but all I could think about was the code I've been writing this week and how much I want to get back to work on it, and that's how I know I've finally broken.

One thing I didn't realize when I was younger is the absolute joy of being proven wrong--it almost always means there's a better way of doing things, and at the same time you end up with more ownership and a broader understanding of the problem.

A very underrated skill in senior engineers is knowing that sometimes you have to let other engineers make choices that you think are wrong. Most likely, they will learn from their mistakes, just like you did.

a nice thing about writing with less jargon is that if what I'm saying doesn't make sense, it's easy for readers to call me on it if you use a lot of impenetrable jargon, people will often think the problem is with *them* instead of with your writing🔎Julia Evans🔍 (@b0rk)Fri, 18 Feb 2022 14:50 GMT

Immunocompromised people can’t just live in a vacuum. They’re a part of society too. They are your doctors, teachers, bankers, baristas, grocery store clerks etc. Please stop saying that high risk people should just stay home so others can live their lives without inconvenience.

Employers always demand a level of courtesy and deference that they would never in a million years consider extending to employees. We’re sick of it.Pope of Chili Town (@ChiliTownPope)Thu, 17 Feb 2022 14:36 GMT
I wouldn't want a gig with that amount of asskissing involved before you even get a parking space! The days of playing games are over. It's a worker's market these days. Employers should be sucking up to prospective employees.Jesus H. Christ (@JConabicycle)Fri, 18 Feb 2022 03:00 GMT
I don't expect a thank you note. However, I do think employers should follow up with job candidates after an interview & thank them, let them know when a decision has been made or if there are delays. That doesn't always happen.
Courtney Berger (@courtney_berger)Thu, 17 Feb 2022 13:48 GMT
^^This is power trip stuff right here. Employers, pro tip: stop expecting candidates to perform an entire circus for you. You already got an application package that took days or maybe weeks to create, plus interview time. Give them the job, or don’t. This is a great feature. But it's worth noting that Mermaid depends heavily on a graph layout library called Dagre, which is now deprecated and unmaintained: github.com/dagrejs/dagre Maybe @github will consider sponsoring Dagre or one of its forks?Post details

When @github announced a new feature (diagram support in Markdown, called "Mermaid") they also created a dependency on a library that is orphaned and no longer maintained. I think there's an xkcd for this that some of us have up on our wall.Post details
