Developers will spend $4,000 on a new computer because "it makes me more productive and saves me time" ...but then also NOT spend $12/month on a SaaS tool that makes them more productive and saves them time because they'd rather spend 300 hours building it themselves

A younger me was once told, if the compiler doesn’t care, neither should I. I couldn’t disagree with this more, now I know better. Code readability by a very junior dev supersedes readability by a compiler or even senior dev. So I add extra lines and invent extra carefully.

Stop worrying about productivity. You don’t even know what it is. You’ve been taught the idea of it by capitalism. Rest because it’s your human right to do so.

Gosh I did a lot on that Web site stuff. Got some knitting in too. Been meaning to. Course, I spaced on a couple (minor) tasks I ＊planned＊ to do. Also, woke up at 6:30am, ate a very light breakfast, and am just now at 9:30pm eating lunch. The hyperfocus side of ADHD.

People outside hear about hyperfocus and think it sounds great. Yay look at that concentration! But all this is more like an exorcism really. Dealing with an intrusive thought I didn't pick, that won't leave me alone until I've exhausted it — like a toddler on a sugar binge.

Casual reminder that a huge reason that they don't want you to work from home anymore is because in terms of capitalism, it makes the dozens of skyscrapers and office buildings they built obsolete, impractical, unprofitable, and a generally bad financial investment.

Tony Chavez (@blacknexus)Sun, 06 Mar 2022 15:19 GMT

I'm gonna tease these out but there has to be a connection between so many women saying they feel the best they've ever felt in their 30s and the patriarchal obsession with telling women that they're devalued after 30.

I too like the .config directory. Happy with that. I just want to solve the problem easily with our existing tools and it seems like standardizing on something to the point where editor plugins will build in the convention would be important.

unfortunately, I'm afraid what's gonna happen is that, if you continue wearing a mask when most people around you have stopped, the cognitive dissonance you cause for them re: whether the pandemic is truly over or not is going to turn into anger (directed at you) right quick

We don’t need any more commentators agonizing over why people are still (!!) wearing masks. It’s to avoid getting sick. Even if I’m 99.9% sure I’ll survive (not everyone is!), maybe I don’t wanna get sick? Or make others sick? Not wanting to get sick is actually very normal!
