This morning's thought: open source developers write software even if nobody is paying them for the same reason that singers sing to themselves even when nobody is listening. It is their nature.

We know that, historically at least, marriages where women outearned men were less stable. We need to stop thinking about open source sustainability as “raise enough money to work full-time.” Not every maintainer wants that. Yeah, as an engineer the last thing I want is my manager "protecting me" from how decisions get made. Nor do I want them thinking it's their job to decide what I get looped in to, or what information I'm allowed to have.

Part of this is my own fault. I pretty much only pursue roles I'm _really_ interested in. I'm pursuing one I'm not stoked about right now because "I should" and it just drains me.
