People questioning whether testing positive for a potentially deadly or disabling disease, keeping it a secret, and then showing up at an industry social gathering unmasked should be a career-ending offense and, yes. That person is almost certainly unsafe in numerous other ways.

One of my favorite things about the upcoming What If 2 (xkcd.com/whatif2) it is that it shows how questions from kids often lead to more catastrophic scenarios than questions from adults, even when the adults are clearly trying really hard to create catastrophic scenarios.Randall Munroe (@xkcd)Sat, 26 Mar 2022 18:18 GMT
Adults: “what if I put a nuclear bomb on a rocket and shot it at supersonic speeds into a volcano?” Kids: “what if I had a really, really big potato? Like 1000 miles wide.” The potato scenario is way more catastrophic!Randall Munroe (@xkcd)Sat, 26 Mar 2022 18:30 GMT

3/ I’m sorry if this upsets my landlord friends, but I am beginning to feel what you do should be taxed so heavily it’s untenable as an industry. i’m fine with someone having one property. Maybe two. I honestly feel if people were forced to look at people in real life and say the things they have the hubris to talk about on here despite not having any real knowledge to back it up they would realise how foolish they sound and I say "foolish" bc I am trying to be polite

I'm now seeing the reverse play out these days, as there's a worker shortage and those not given respect decide they don't have to put up with it. Our cleaner fired 25% of their clients and upon talking with them they were all ones treating them with no dignity.Gergely Orosz (@GergelyOrosz)Sat, 26 Mar 2022 13:08 GMT
its so funny that jk rowling is doing the whole ‘reality doesnt care about your feelings’ angle with trans people when kings cross station built an entire fake platform for tourists based on her little books where she got the stations name wrong
laura (@freezydorito)Sat, 26 Mar 2022 13:06 GMT
Treating people around you with respect as like they are equals even when you're technically "above them" in a given context goes a long way. This goes for cleaning staff (e.g. at work or at home), contractors (when you're an employee or hiring them), restaurant staff and so on.Gergely Orosz (@GergelyOrosz)Sat, 26 Mar 2022 13:05 GMT

It can be strange, sometimes, to be me. I’m the wealthiest man on the planet, for starters. Leaders across America, and indeed the world, look to me as a visionary driving technological progress in areas from transportation, to communication, to becoming a multi-planetary species. The kinds of projects I’m involved in…

AWS Lambdas are now configurable up to: 10GB deployment size 10GB RAM (6vCPU) 10GB /tmp 15 minute runtime So your most expensive per-invocation lambda cost ends up: ~$0.13 On Fargate, nonspot, (4vCPU) that same task: ~$0.07 Worth it?
