Don't reject the idea of being politically correct, or any of these things. Reject the framing that they even exist in this fashion, in any meaningful way. You believe what you believe. You do what you do. Other people can call it whatever they want. Don't let that change you.

I don't get called "PC" often, because I prefer hanging around folks with more imagination. Last time I think my response was "sure, as long as I can install Linux on it. Mac'll do in a pinch. None of that changes the fact that [original topic] was a dick move."

TL;DR: for major providers, Terraform does not really need state. My proposal: add a “none” backend that uses the provider APIs as state.

I think about this post a lot. It was in response to Tesco introducing flesh-tone plasters which actually matched people's skin colours. This "default" culture cuts across everything. It defines anyone who isn't a cishet white man as abnormal. Utterly insidious.

I've got all the military memories saved offline and can pull those out at any point. But, I want my kids and later their kids, to have a place to come see what their grandfather did. How I tried to make the world a little bit better. No kids? Even more reason to maintain one!

What do you want people to see when they search for your name. A curated experience of everything about you or 14 copies of your obituary and that's it?

Chris Short 🇺🇸🇺🇦 (@ChrisShort)Sun, 29 May 2022 13:47 +0000

The best advice I can give folks about maintaining your own web site. First, it should be a living thing showing off all your works. chrisshort.net is way more than a blog. I treat like a time capsule that I continuously add to.

With that being said, I've added new works to chrisshort.net this morning from the past couple weeks. No need to link to them, but, they're there. They'll be discoverable soon. It feels good to have that full body of work ready to hand over to folks too.

OFCOM created UK phone numbers which aren't real but do ring to use in TV shows (like the US "555" numbers). Next time an app or website wants your phone number for no good non-spam reason, give it one of these. 07700 900000 and 0121 496 0000 are good. ofcom.org.uk/phones-telecom…

The part of the Star Wars mythos where the incompetent elites who failed to stop the system from sliding into fascism simply go into hiding and do nothing waiting for a bunch of kids to grow up and fix the problem themselves hits pretty hard right now.
