Very difficult to come out in a sport where your teammates may not risk a yellow card to support you.

Today, we are saddened to announce that Nottingham Castle Trust has begun the process of appointing liquidators. This is a heartbreaking day for trustees, our dedicated staff, visitors, and the city. If you are due to visit, please see our website for further details.

Elon has taken over a global company and is acting like it is a purely American entity. And only seems to care about its cultural impact in that country. This all supports the idea that his reason to takeover the company is politically driven.

#Nottingham Castle news. Dismayed to hear this! People saying in comments it had been on the cards, but I had no idea. Went there in the summer, lovely place to look out across the city from. I really hope that whatever happens with the building, the grounds can be kept open.Post details

Qatar is basically telling the West "we take your most beloved sport event through bribery, move it to the winter, swap fans for paid actors, take away the beer, make thousands of powerful people shut up about human rights, and we get away with it because we're rich enough."

Trusting strangers on the internet with your data and digital personhood is hard! I’m not saying it isn’t a problem on Mastodon. I’m asking why you’ve only just noticed
Joe (@jna_sh)Mon, 21 Nov 2022 11:16 GMT
And to be clear, again I'm not defending Masto or particularly the federated aspect. Y'all have heard me say that I think decentralized nerds (including Matrix/Element) put the tech babble ahead of usability a million times. It's just a funny time to start caring about this issue
Joe (@jna_sh)Mon, 21 Nov 2022 11:40 GMT
People will give their passports to random apps, authorise some browser extension to read every one of their emails, pipe everything that happens in their home directly to Bezos. And then write a 22 tweet stranger danger treatise over MastodonJoe (@jna_sh)Mon, 21 Nov 2022 11:15 GMT
Boycott the World Cup? Absolutely not. Instead we will go there and use our presence to highlight the issues and hold power to account. But only if they let us, and no one feels uncomfortable, and we don’t actually have to do anything.

Wearing one was an easy gesture that externalised homophobia and transphobia as something bad that only really happens in other countries. Now we know general solidarity with LGBTQ people extends to the limits of “not watching football” and “maybe getting a yellow card”
Huw Lemmey (@huwlemmey)Mon, 21 Nov 2022 10:31 GMT
My hot take is that not wearing an armband is a more meaningful political gesture than wearing one because it highlights just how limited real solidarity for LGBTQ people is in English society, rather than making a vague gesture about homophobia being a “foreign problem”

You are not going to like my answer, but it is the path of least resistance for me. I post *everything* first to my website, and my website handles syndicating it to Twitter and via ActivityPub.
🖊️I write about tech, mental health and other things on my website: https://localghost.dev I write intentionally and openly about mental health, burnout and other things, as I think we have a habit of glamourising “hustle” and working all hours even when it’s making us miserable. I want to normalise talking about mental health matters and putting your wellbeing first.
Every November 20th, I play Celeste until I reach the memorial. After dozens of playthroughs, I still cry when I see it. I almost perished on the climb, but I made it. Others weren't as lucky. The posts that are like “instead of fixing Twitter we should rebuild irl communities” are so funny. Like I’m going to walk into a community hall and say something like “need me a caked-up shawty with autism” and immediately walk out

I keep saying this: TikTok/Reels/video is not a *social* media, it’s *gig* media. It’s Uber for Entertainment. Gig workers “creating content” with no union benefits or regular hours or clear employer. The rest of us watching the videos are the riders, not drivers.

I’d like to point out that despite all of us knowing that a content moderation council and a Twitter poll is not a wise way of controlling rhetoric and protecting people, I see this behavior a lot in tech.
