An interesting thing about Andreesen’s little rant about the “woke mind virus” is: this guy has a *job*. Bazillions of people who also have jobs keep their wacko opinions to themselves, because, well, they are aware it would hurt them in the pocketbook.
It alarms me that the Andreesen class thinks that implausible claims that AI would share his prejudices won’t cause investors to shy away from him. He must assume tribal affinity pushes aside profit motive. Huh. Who woulda thunk it?
who "wears the pants" in the relationship isn't about gender or income. it's about who gets dressed to get the food delivery when the driver leaves it too far from the door
I'm going to say this again:
Domestic violence victims need SMS-based 2FA. People without "smart" devices who use social media on shared computers need SMS-based 2FA.
SMS-based 2FA is also 75%+ of 2FA users. They will simply stop using 2FA altogether with changes like this.

Useful information. Also, yes, you should use 2FA for every online account you have; using a secure app for 2FA is smarter than using unsecure texts; and if Twitter ever tries to take away all 2FA methods unless you have a subscription, leave the site.

These takes are in such a terrible techno bubble that we fully forget that most hostile account take overs happen when a relationship goes south.
Revenge porn comes from malware specialists, sure, but it's usually your angry ex partner who had your password or PIN with consent.
actually really kinda fucked up tbh. that feeling stuck around maybe until a year and a half since i came out to myself? then ended up realising that it doesn’t really matter and that i *feel* pretty and damn anyone else’s opinion
Unpopular opinion: sick days are for when you’re sick, not preventative “mental health” days.
Skipping work has a sharply negative impact on your students and colleagues.
Contracts vary, but if sick days are different from personal days, they’re not for relaxing.
DISTRICTS: Teachers and School Staff,
We know how much stress you are under, and how close you are to breaking down. Your physical and mental health are our priority. Please focus on self-care and take care of yourself.
ALSO, DISTRICTS:
Popular opinion: when I worked in Denmark, we didn’t get a limited amount of sick days bc as they told me, “you don’t know when you’re going to be sick.” Give people freedom and respect and they will have better mental health. Don’t limit sick days at all.

I don’t understand the attraction of being able to talk to computers using breezy casual conversational language; I’ve been telling these little digital bastards what to do for decades using extremely precise formalised language and they still get it wrong
Funny enough, not all CEOs or exec teams feel they need to take a pay cut when they decide their staff are too expensive and need to be laid off. Some even explicitly tell you that.
If you work at a company that just laid-off a bunch of your coworkers, at your next all hands meeting, ask your CEO how much of a pay cut they are taking for the next 3 years.
Is there already a tool that scrapes one's mastodon follows and extracts RSS feeds from their linked websites?
If not I'm definitely gonna get that built.
She posted the original message to do what? Create dialogue with strangers (fans and followers). If she isn’t comfortable being in the public’s view like this, then she is in the wrong career path. Being a famous content creator will increase this kind of responses. I do not
Today, I’d like to give a special shoutout to the awesome @sambutlerUS. 😍
On October 18th, 2020, Sam contacted me cold on LinkedIn. I responded instantly. Over 2 years later, Sam has tirelessly shipped every COSS Weekly (@COSS_Community) well past 100 issues!
My mind is blown 🤯
In a Dockerfile you can copy things from an image in the registry
It totally makes sense considering in multi-stage build you reference local layers but I never imaged using it this way
For copying executables etc is fantastic
“15 minutes cities” are such an obvious *good* thing that any opposition to them is purely a sign of a deeply ill mind. And how do you hope to walk someone back from thinking “going to the shops should be easier” is an evil plot to control them?
They can’t even figure out how to rate limit the existing API and you think they’re going to add this anytime soon? He’s just blowing hot air, this isn’t coming.

I had a client who said something so true today. He said that he found out that it costs over $500k to house a person on Rikers for a year (it’s true). But then he was like, if they gave me half of that, they’d never see me here ever again.
You can create a beloved series of animated movies that are visually stunning with great worldbuilding and action but in the eyes of Hollywood your art isn't "real" until it's a live action remake with an actor doing all the same stuff but worse and more boring

Some wins today:
I made myself go out when I really wasn’t feeling like it. I got brunch by myself on the patio at The Mission.
While out, I decided to get my car washed. I also replaced the wipers …
#AntManAndTheWaspQuantumania was weird and wonderful. It’s Jonathan Major’s and Michelle Pfeiffer’s film, no question. Great fun, great effects, lots more to come. Plus MODOK was comic perfect.
A step in the right direction imo. WFH is de-skilling people and seriously hurting the industry. You can't build multimillion pound creative projects while the majority of the people doing the work are sitting in their bedrooms.

Who wears a sleeveless dress in February? a) menopausal women, b) women who have taken their jacket off because they are hot c) women who spend every waking moment doing their job instead of thinking about their wardrobe and d) women who can because it’s nobody else’s business.
If you believe this, I hope you never reproduce. Strong women are dope. So are nurturing loving fathers and people in solid relationships with a nuanced dynamics. Men in the “Mano sphere” are silly small-dick energy boys with outdated ideas. This shit makes you look ignorant.
Cis het folks:
There are jobs that will be directly targeted at hurting us. If you’re an ally, they don’t have to be done well. Or really at all if you’re clever.
