If you have driven in the UK, have you ever wondered why http://GOV.UK looks so familiar? Looking at these 2 slides, will explain why!
Note: not my work, these are from an excellent presentation by Charlotte L Downs
& Chris Ballantine-Thomas! 😍
Obligatory "some personal news" tweet: happy to share that I’ve started this week as an EM at @containersoluti!
I'm super excited to get to know the team and work on all things engineering management. Everyone I met is lovely so far and I can't wait to get stuck in!
Bloodhound:
Passive - white ravens appear when an enemy is close
Tactical - no change
Ultimate - when activated a white raven will appear and guide you to the nearest enemy. Less footstep tracks. No other changes to the ultimate functionality
I'll be blunt: I'm buzzing with excitement to weed out the talks from joint ventures and give high marks to the ones about rolling your own pipelines. The talks from the budding green new speakers will be 🔥. It's gonna be lit
Me, as aspiring staff eng: I want to be in the room where decisions are made
Me in the room where decisions are made: I wonder if the window is locked and how far the drop would be if I climbed out
I did it.
We're finally publising actionshub/yamllint automatically.
We'll now get new container versions on a pull request and a push to main.
Those pushed to main will be tagged both latest and whatever the next semver tag is being pushed
https://github.com/actionshub/yamllint
https://github.com/actionshub/yamllint/blob/main/.github/workflows/publish.yaml
I should probably do a full blog post about this because it hurt my head for ages.
The only last step to possibly automate (which I'm not sure is possible) is to change the actions.yml file.
I used to work at a jewellers. A man came in and said, "Have you got a potato clock?". I said, "Never heard of it, but we have carriage clocks and cuckoo clocks". He said, "That's no good, you see I have a new job that starts at 9, and my wife said I need to get a potato clock".
I see takes on here like "the terminally online left is alienating the normies by acting like it's bad to call disabled people the r slur" and it's like you have literally not stepped outside since high school

do you think my apartment in sf and vacations around the world have been financed by luck or the fact that i’ve been programming since age 9, working customer service since 15, and working in the industry since 19?
This is such a bad take. I don’t even know what you mean by business cycle, nor has that terminology ever come up in my decade in tech.
I don’t think anyone that uses arbitrary requirements to define titles should be deciding who should be staff engineers.
I’m a director with less than five years of professional experience.
There’s no need to devalue other people’s achievements just because you don’t know how they accomplished them.
I don't think anyone with 5 years of professional experience should be staff, no matter how talented they are. That's not even enough time to witness a business cycle. Not purely an age thing, but unless you entered industry in high school...
All the AI generated images online is making me want to get offline and go to an art gallery. I don’t trust anything I see online now and feel it all lacks soul.
As much as I would hate if GitHub had DMs sometimes I feel like it’s necessary if someone is like “just merge this fix to your old project that is a one line change”, someone reached out to me on LinkedIn (🤦♀️) to essentially say that and I feel badly it came to that
