A thing about Mastodon that I didn't realize I'd missed from pre-algorithm Twitter is the sheer randomness of the content. No longer honed to be hyper-engaging (usually by being scary or enraging) I now see weird experiments, fun scientific papers, random shitposts. Of course it's not all exactly in my wheelhouse, but that makes it simultaneously more *interesting* while being less *addictive*. The whole experience feels a lot healthier for my brain.

Thinking of the time Elon publicly fired an Android engineer for saying that the app was slow because of technical debt and a full rewrite is needed to address perf problems. 3 months on, Elon himself proposes a full rewrite himself, because a config change caused an outage. 😅

Now there is a Sidekick, who’s pitch is that it’s a “productivity browser”. Today it's launching a host of features geared to ADHD sufferers and the attention distracted more generally. Sidekick was a 2020 Y Combinator cohort member , and in March 2021 they raised $2M in a round led by Kleiner Perkins.
