A long time ago, I deliberately got rid of the accent I grew up with, because in the UK it made me sound dumb to people from the South. Then I worked in Colombia and simplified the way I spoke even more. 10 years after that, and the consequence is that my accent is functionally American, and I… regret it quite deeply 😢
