Adulting in 3 words: it’s always something

An apartment complex was recently purchased in Charlotte, NC by a Wall Street investment firm. Rent was $950 a month, now it's $1,800 a month. That's not inflation, that's greed.

This certainly happened, but I don’t think it was ever “the standard”. The fact that it worked, though, made me stoked 100% of the time. I’ll counter with the fact that when this happens, it almost always worked fine for the user.

Remember way back in the day when the standard for writing Chef recipes was basically "fuck the DSL, we'll write raw Ruby!" ? Before everyone realized maybe that wasn't the best idea? I just saw AWS CDK code for the first time, and boy, things sure do seem familiar

I've never been good at to-do lists - I never remember to actually look at the list, and if I set notifications I often miss or ignore them. Sometimes I just put events in my calendar when I need to do things. Anyone like me & got a better system that actually works for them?

my toxic ADHD trait is making plans, scheduling my day and scoping work as if those colorful little blocks on the calendar are magical slides that instantly teleport me to my next engagement where i will immediately begin doing the thing it says

One of the unsung values of posting to HN is the unvarnished feedback if a link hits the front page.

An excellent post & set of reflections. One thing to always check is the pension - that's often missing from adverts and negotiations. Obviously hard to compare DB and DC schemes.

Covid's ripped thru Seward HQ the last fortnight, we're finally coming out the other side. It's been HELL. 1-yr-old had temp pushing 40°C for 48hrs, was awful to feel so helpless. She's bounced back thankfully and is her old smiley self - me & @MrAndrew not so much just yet...
