Trust(*) is the currency of #opensource communities — not money or power. (* also stickers, swag, and coffee)

this is a huge reason why I’m so aggressive about defending projects owning their own online presence. having it be managed by others or leaving it to die is a really good way to erode trust.

If by "sex changes for minors" you mean "allowing trans teens to use the correct bathroom in school," or "allowing trans teens access to puberty blockers which have been in use since the 1980s with no ill effect" ... maybe you should say that

Quite a few of my repos that people actually download libraries regularly are not touched in a year. Last update 2019 (github.com/mitsuhiko/migh…). It’s a stable library used by sentry every day.

Suggestion: auto-archive projects instead: code is still available, issues etc are flattened to read-only static copies. Have a "reactivate project" button the user can click to re-inflate their project back to live status Not trivial to build, but SO MUCH better than deletion

movie pirate to film preservationist pipeline

The Batgirl/ HBO Max situation is why I spent my last day on set of Dickinson calling an exec at apple and *begging* for a physical recording of my show…they actually gave me one, I have the ONLY copy…. People said I was crazy but dude, that’s ten years of my life 🎞📽📼📀

All I’ll say about film piracy is that there are so many wonderful pieces of art that would’ve been entirely lost to time if those methods didn’t exist

ooooh 'cutesy'. Ah I love it. Big 'man who doesn't like women' red flags here. I bet you and Surma chatting never got referred to as cutesy.

Whoops. I annoyed the serious tech men with my personality again.

I consider it a good metric at this point. If I'm annoying people like this then the content is probably nice and friendly and accessible for the people I actually care about.

there's a reading of Galaxy Quest where the aliens are playing an incredibly elaborate prank on Tim Allen which is also quite good

Look, what’s more likely - that a bunch of actors learned how to use highly advanced space equipment right away because it was built after watching them pretend to operate it OR an alien race with a hyper advanced sense of humour wanted to torture the Tool Man for a bit

The reason that they luck through all of the various situations is because they’re all unfailable, staged by competent aliens who are, like, 10/10 in to cosplay
