You know what? I'm going to put some TRANS JOY on the TL today. Here's a bunch of things that have been going great for me as a trans person so y'all can remember it's actually a gift. #TransJoy

When you’re used to privilege, equality feels like oppression.

Stop making podcasts about news and discourse and history. We have enough of those. Stop. We get it. How about a podcast where guests come on and talk about their pets, their quirks and treats and tricks. Learn about a new little guy every week.

People questioning whether testing positive for a potentially deadly or disabling disease, keeping it a secret, and then showing up at an industry social gathering unmasked should be a career-ending offense and, yes. That person is almost certainly unsafe in numerous other ways.

Adults: “what if I put a nuclear bomb on a rocket and shot it at supersonic speeds into a volcano?” Kids: “what if I had a really, really big potato? Like 1000 miles wide.” The potato scenario is way more catastrophic!

Randall Munroe (@xkcd)Sat, 26 Mar 2022 18:30 GMT

One of my favorite things about the upcoming What If 2 (xkcd.com/whatif2) it is that it shows how questions from kids often lead to more catastrophic scenarios than questions from adults, even when the adults are clearly trying really hard to create catastrophic scenarios.

I'm a big fan of trans women asserting we have periods because whether or not it's scientifically accurate or whatever it always makes the very worst kind of person obsessively irrationally frothing-at-the-mouth angry

3/ I’m sorry if this upsets my landlord friends, but I am beginning to feel what you do should be taxed so heavily it’s untenable as an industry. i’m fine with someone having one property. Maybe two. But we have to get back to basics and understand these are not investments.

I honestly feel if people were forced to look at people in real life and say the things they have the hubris to talk about on here despite not having any real knowledge to back it up they would realise how foolish they sound and I say "foolish" bc I am trying to be polite

Bolu Babalola (@BeeBabs)Sat, 26 Mar 2022 15:07 GMT

Treating people around you with respect as like they are equals even when you're technically "above them" in a given context goes a long way. This goes for cleaning staff (e.g. at work or at home), contractors (when you're an employee or hiring them), restaurant staff and so on.

its so funny that jk rowling is doing the whole ‘reality doesnt care about your feelings’ angle with trans people when kings cross station built an entire fake platform for tourists based on her little books where she got the stations name wrong

I'm now seeing the reverse play out these days, as there's a worker shortage and those not given respect decide they don't have to put up with it. Our cleaner fired 25% of their clients and upon talking with them they were all ones treating them with no dignity.
