"Gets a lot wrong, but presents it in a clear and good-faith way" is basically the highest compliment you can receive in a Twitter argument

Post details

Here's a thread that I think gets a LOT wrong, and I want to talk about it, but these are arguments made by a huge number of people and these are the most clear and good-faith way I've seen them presented. So, go read Hillel's thread and then come back to this one.

everyone is so pissed about this but it’s the first sensible idea the film industry has had in years: tax superhero movie fans so we can fund the movies that are actually good twitter.com/discussingfilm…

After I drink coffee I show my empty cup to the IT guy and say that I have successfully installed Java. He hates me.

Yesterday I asked an interviewer why they do live coding interviews. They responded, “to make sure you know how to program.” I wonder at what point faking programming for nearly 2 decades has ever happened

I think one of the uncomfortable truths of software engineering is that coming up with a fair, equitable, and accurate interviewing process is impossible. Any evaluation criteria is going to be unfairly hurt some people and unfairly help others. Livecoding is obvs bad for anxiety

To be honest, my "pandemic fatigue" is vastly overshadowed by my "spending the last year watching people complain non-stop about being asked to do the bare minimum" fatigue.

Interesting to find out that during every radicalized election, every genocide, every riot around the world over the last 10 years, huge tech platforms could have swiftly identified disinformation and malicious propaganda and paused their distribution of it, but they didn't.

Due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, we’re blocking YouTube channels connected to RT and Sputnik across Europe, effective immediately. It’ll take time for our systems to fully ramp up. Our teams continue to monitor the situation around the clock to take swift action.

Video shared on Ukrainian channels of a captured Russian soldier apparently being fed by locals. The post says he burst into tears when he was allowed to video-call his mother. So many of these troops are just teenagers, with absolutely no clue what this war is really for.

Agree. And most of our comms issues are with other areas that are only cheap-to-be-wrong very early / before building begins.
