On 29th January 1996, "Threshold", the Star Trek: Voyager episode where Captain Janeway and Tom Paris turned into giant space newts and had babies first aired. In advance of #ThresholdDay we aim to answer a burning question: did Paris and Janeway fuck? If so, how did they fuck?

A thing I hear from many gender-questioning people is the idea they don't "need" to transition, it's not a life-or-death-matter for them, and so they shouldn't do it. One problem with that logic is just how much human beings can get accustomed to quiet low-grade lifelong misery.

Got to brag a bit. What they gave me to start this project: - a couple screenshots - an old Java Spring project repo w/o tests What the new dev gets: - Sphinx-generated dev docs - REST API explorer - integration + browser tests - SQL dashboard - 32 hours hands-on training

Interesting notification from @ThePracticalDev. I took a look at the plagiarised post via the Wayback Machine - the dolt hadn't even changed my name in the example text! Anyway, you can read my original at shkspr.mobi/blog/2021/12/a…

Every time I think/write about hexagonal architecture, I feel like it's an actual silver bullet. It has so many valuable aspects, e.g. focusing on actor intentions, which allow for better test scenarios, decoupling from specific technologies, which leads to increased testability

My domain name for the tech advice column I was messing about with is about to expire. It’s very good (auntiepattern.com) Do I let it expire, or start writing advice columns again?

Try to have something to "look forward" to I keep a list of things I want to do, and once a quarter schedule some of them. It can be big things (road trips), or small things (like playing mini golf).

At Substack, we try to avoid using the comments of the public as a general lens on what we should keep on our platforms - especially when it comes to platforming people who promote hate - we need the funding! Here's more on how about how our broken logic works 🧵

Post details

At Substack, we don’t make moderation decisions based on public pressure or PR considerations. An important principle for us is defending free expression, even for stuff we personally dislike or disagree with. We understand principles come at a cost. 🧵
