it’s good and detailed but I know it’s confirming what I already know about crypto: it’s short-sighted tech bro dogshit, so I don’t want to waste any more energy on it (it wastes enough as it is)

Well, what do ya know. Some folks on my new team don't know about that air fryer life. Converting them has just become one of my KPIs for the year.

The usual challenge with testing language applies here: I'm confident different people have different mental models of what "unit" and "integration" tests actually mean

Simon Willison (@simonw)Mon, 24 Jan 2022 19:48 GMT

Not sure if this is a controversial opinion or not: unit tests should make up a minority segment of your overall automated test suite I'd absolutely take a project with integration and no unit tests over one with unit tests but no integration tests

It's Content Day at @incident_io! Everyone downs tools for a day, and writes blog posts that we can use for the following month. We write about everything from incident response, to how we build the product, to how we run projects. It's very therapeutic. ✍️

I love our regular team writing days. Mainly because everyone here is excellent at talking about what they do, but also because my calendar only really focusses on two things 🍔✍️

I want a world where people can be super successful in their careers without over working, without gritting my teeth through unethical, miserable jobs, without doing a ton of open source But that doesn’t reflect the reality of my career. So how can I mentor someone to do better

kat.rs (@zkat__)Sun, 23 Jan 2022 21:50 GMT

PSA: Stop making developers feel like they HAVE to get involved in open source. You DO NOT HAVE TO participate in open source to A) be successful or B) give back to the community. You can be successful and give back to the community in MANY other ways.

Emma Bostian 🐞 (@EmmaBostian)Thu, 20 Jan 2022 10:54 GMT

I started a sketch of my thoughts on the funding of open source and so far my conclusions are so bleak I hesitate to publish.
