TIL: JEP is short for "JDK Enhancement Proposal" not "Java Enhancement Proposal". Good thing I haven't made that mistake in blog articles, talks, videos, streams, courses, and conversations for about five years now. 😳Nicolai Parlog (@nipafx)Mon, 29 Nov 2021 09:04 GMT

whenever some VC tweets about some use case for crypto: - you could do the same thing without crypto - it would be less complicated - the crypto version bottoms out on the same problem anyway - it probably doesn't workoffline cursed (@mountain_ghosts)Mon, 29 Nov 2021 09:15 GMT

Okay, so. My dad died late Saturday night/early Sunday morning. He had ALS, so we knew it was coming, just not so soon. We were going to go see him in the new year, but now we're having to work out flights and tests and everything. I don't have details. I just miss him.Kate Bolin, occasional monkey (@katemonkey)Mon, 22 Nov 2021 09:33 GMT

“hugops” is just a way to tweet about a company’s outage without looking like a jerk, but y’all aren’t ready for that conversation

I mean, I’ve broken systems used by millions, it can feel so lonely and hopeless, I’d honestly be happy to hear folks out there were on my side. Maybe that’s just me.

sorry, really disagree that it’s just an aesthetic. cynical tweets about other companies do great on twitter, so hugops is a less trendy but more empathetic response from a specific part of the field recognizing job complexities; a _more_ advanced conversation IMO.

i’ll say hugops is dope in comparison to getting death threats for the online game you work on being down

I mean, yes? That is the point of it? We enjoy dissecting outages and hugops is to indicate that we still sympathize with those fighting the fire even as we speculate about it.
