Pretty sure that if an intern can email a live mailing list without an employee approving it, it was actually the business's lack of proper controls. In other words "they pooped in the yard, the intern was the one who stepped in it."

Hot take: it's a good thing that HBO tweeted that an intern was responsible for the integration email mistake. Why? Because at the same time, they signalled to us *and to other companies* that the person responsible is not in trouble and being taken care of.

In this case, HBO demonstrated that they give their interns real responsibilities, and that they're equipped to handle it in a healthy, constructive way when a mistake inevitably happens. They are setting a good example for others.

We've seen multiple cases of an intern being blamed, named, and hung out to dry. That's shitty. It's okay for interns to make mistakes. It's expected. They should have the freedom to do that, on production systems, and not fear their careers being ruined.
