Can't even escape this nonsense because I'm so incredibly aware that the industry has made doing OSS core to career growth, same as using GitHub, and so I can loudly shout "STOP" from the roofs but without offering newcomers an alternative, I'm just telling them to not get a job

Responsibility is good, yes. We should establish some legal standards for how people can reasonably understand what is being done with their data when they sign up for a service. We did this in the EU, it is called GDPR. This feature is in breach of GDPR and the fines are massive
