Ok, here it is. A slow reply to @chriscoyier's RSS post, and a test of my new webmentions setup. Am I on the IndieWeb Yet? (Even if mentions work, they won't display yet. Unfortunately, the end of my high school career was robbed from me. I didn't have the time other students get to properly prepare for the future. Finally settled in at home & the anxiety of what I encountered this week smacks me. Mostly because I'm finally safe and away from a predator. But also... this shit has to be talked about because it's not okay, and I'm tired of the stories. Mine included. Peep this 🧵:

twitter is so weird because it's like constant whiplash between a really funny joke, the most horrific violence you can think of, a movie that looks cool, an acquaintance having phenomenal tits, absolute despair, and the history of a medieval painting, all in about 90 seconds

Dubai is actively being built by slave labor. And UAE has committed numerous human rights violations against women, queer people, and Asian people. Not only was this looked over but the immediate response when people pointed it out was to lock the thread and hide their replies

Would you risk being murdered by the state to attend a conference? Even if we accept that a foreigner is unlikely to be persecuted, you’d still be showing support through association for a regime that thinks large parts of our community shouldn’t exist equaldex.com/region/united-…Aaron Bassett - 🥑🪐 (@aaronbassett)Mon, 06 Jun 2022 14:00 +0000

If you’re paying attention to ReactEurasia’s choice for conference location, you’re witnessing why committees with diversity are important. It would’ve taken just a _single_ voice to express how poor & harmful that choice was for the community they’re serving.Kyle Shevlin (@kyleshevlin)Mon, 06 Jun 2022 17:26 +0000
Is having the death penalty for homosexual acts 'cosmopolitan lifestyle' now? How non-diverse is an organisation where nobody speaks up, when someone plans a conference in Dubai?

One thing I'll always remember from FOSDEM a few years back was him doing a live demo, having technical issues and he literally took a fresh laptop out of his bag and started doing the demo on that one. Being so prepared and smooth when going through demos or speaking is a huge one I see in great speakers like Scott!
