this is just my opinion but there’s very little on decentralizing social media thats technological problems in any capacity we understand, and a lot that’s people problems, and fixing ppl problems with technology tends to be band-aidy

masto has spent the last what 5 years putting in the work on doing decentralized networks at scale in the open with real users + real drama so obvi I’m hyped to see what a bunch of sv valley bros on cocaine think they r bringing to the table on this space getrevue.co/profile/jackja…laura (@freezydorito)Wed, 14 Dec 2022 13:51 GMT
i love to diss on mastodon and this actually comes from a rather unfair frustration that like a lot of OSS its just trying to reskin the big alternative, twitter (toots, seriously?) in a clunky way instead of making anything new. it’s funny to see jack doing that to masto now

If you end up in a team where the spec is used to generate client/server/doc I think the benefits are sky high. But usually teams end up thinking that their API is special and the generated code does not work for them and hybrid I think is a pain

I only use ESLint warnings, no errors. Here's why: Locally, ESLint errors may fail some processes, and thus, force me to fix something immediately before I can continue work. A warning never blocks work. So, I can delay fixing the issue until I'm ready to open a PR. 1/2Cory House (@housecor)Wed, 14 Dec 2022 21:30 GMT

If you’re walking into public spaces without a mask on, you’re non-consensually imposing your risk model onto other people, and it isn’t a cool or community-minded attitude to hold.

NEW: Twitter currently does not have admin access to some of its GitHub repos. These repos contain Twitter source code (much of it is open source; some is not). This includes code for companies Twitter acquired, like Smyte. 1/
Zoë Schiffer (@ZoeSchiffer)Tue, 13 Dec 2022 13:54 GMT
Twitter doesn’t deploy from GitHub, and most of this is open source, so it’s not life or death. But having hundreds of former employees maintain access when current employees aren’t admins on some projects is…not great, from a security perspective. 3/
Zoë Schiffer (@ZoeSchiffer)Tue, 13 Dec 2022 13:56 GMT
Why? Well, the company fired a bunch of employees who had access. On Slack, one engineer said the TwitterDev org on GitHub has 519 members, most of whom do not work at Twitter anymore. Some still have owner permissions — like the ability to rename or delete an org entirely. 2/
