Has anyone got the screenshots of the weird labia phrenologist GC who claims to have fingered a corpse arguing with the pornstar about her own genitals?
What a fucking sentence
OK, let's debate a definition. Today, let's talk about "vulnerability" in software.
Your product, (let's call it A) uses a library (which we'll call X).
X has a load of features. Among those is some function, "someFunc" which has a bug. It's supposed to be safe to call with untrusted data... but some clever researchers have found that they can craft input that results in remote code execution (RCE).
X has a vulnerability. Does A?
Andy shares how he’s helping the OSI today and his thoughts on the Cyber Resilience Act. Ana Meta Dolinar and Gemma Penson talk about the Women @CL, how they’re helping to fix the huge gender imbalance when it comes to open source and computer science, and their thoughts on the “leaky pipeline” metaphor.
Back when Raquel Vélez was my boss at npm, inc., she had a name for when somebody would give you an ill-defined task and then would get upset when you didn't do it "right."
She called it "Bring me a rock." When I asked her what that meant, she would say "Bring me a rock... no, not that one." It was a pretty clear example.
She recognized quickly that I hate, with all of me, "Bring me a rock." It's the least good game.
Anyway, was thinking about that tonight.
Everybody should use that.
I have been lucky to avoid any layoffs in my job but fuck, I have seen even just the constant threat of another round emotionally DESTROY good friends and their motivation to work in the process.

We really need to talk about the psychological cruelty of multiple layoff rounds.
i asked my mom if it was ever suggested that i had adhd as a kid & she said 'noooo you were a gifted child!' 'you graduated early! a person with adhd couldn't do that' and then told me my senior paper was on how i couldn't concentrate in class
Still thinking about the guy who didn’t like my prices and said “look I’m down to support but that’s too expensive and a line has to be drawn somewhere, I’ll just wait until someone leaks it” so I blocked him and gave everyone else free content
searching for leaked content is engaging with someone sexually without their consent which is horrifying behavior, pay the $15 like a normal person or accept that the content isn’t for you and find someone else it’s really easy!

This episode wasn't supposed to be an episode! I was invited by Jeff Fritz of Twitch fame to talk to his community team of Live Coders on Discord. They recorded it, and mentioned several times that it was useful content! So, why not try something new and make this an episode! Let me know on Twitter if you find my views on community, productivity, and life useful to you!

.@CutestKitten@infosec.exchange just sent me the funniest story I've seen in a while - a game dev who exploited a vulnerability in their own game to remotely patch it post release
Your irregular reminder: something referred to as a 'number' in a particular domain — account number, card number, phone number, ISBN, PIN, etc. — is rarely a number from a coding or mathematical perspective.
Often 'numbers' contain letters, punctuation or other significant formatting. Even if they're just sequences of digits, they are just that, and a sequence of digits is not necessarily a mathematical number — if you're storing them as integers, now you know what you're fixing next week 🙃
Women in games are not…
- your next girlfriend.
- your next one night stand.
- your next victim.
To the women who were affected by what transpired at the GDC social events - we’re so sorry the games industry let you down.
Things that make this source code leak dangerous for Twitter:
1. Regulators can inspect, and potentially find cases when Twitter told them A, when the source code says B
2. IP and patent challenges could come from third parties examining it
3. Business logic exploits

People only like you because youre kind and and smart lmao. You only have friends because your presence puts people at ease and makes their day easier lol
Young engineers: please don't do this. Learn the fundamentals; tech is all the same bits and bytes on the lower levels. This knowledge will serve you no matter what the flavor of the week is, because you'll be able to understand them all

if i was 20 now i’d drop everything and jump into AI. i feel a great deal of FOMO tbh but also hesitant about abandoning all the context i already have in my field. not sure what to do.
