Given that my entire wardrobe consists of #hacktoberfest t-shirts, I'm a little upset by this news. https://hacktoberfest.com/about/#digital-rewards I get the challenges (and the annoyance of drive-by contributors) but I'll miss the fun of getting a random prize in the post.
I do some work for a non-profit. I love what I do. When I'm stressed, I put in some extra hours that I don't bill them for because it gives me something to focus on to get me through. I realize this means that I am Not Good At Capitalism but it's sure good for my heart.
I’m hearing from my laid off #Disney friends that their jobs are being refilled at a level lower making them ineligible to apply. Meaning filthy rich #BobIger destroyed 7,000 lives while relaxing on his yacht to replace older workers with young, cheap labor. #DisneyMagic
As everyone rushes to invest in AI, moving away from crypto, my new favourite term has emerged: grift shift.
git blame myself
I think the main difference between twitter and mastadon for me is that here I feel like I can post whatever I want and also it's not evil
abolish résumés. abolish cover letters. ask me whatever questions you need to ask in the job application and in one interview maximum and leave it at that.

Bramley was with a dog sitter today while we played D&D and he got to play with other dogs and some kids and now he's passed the fuck out as he's so tired :D
When I was little (in the 90s) and the radio was my only source of music, I used to get really annoyed when they played music I didn't like at the time. One of them was Alanis Morissette because it was always on. Anyway... I was a fool. It's so embarrassing to admit that I am only now appreciating her songs. On the other hand, if I had known about "You Oughta Know" many years ago when I had a heartbreak, I probably would have embarrassed myself on social media at the time. 😂
Got one of those friends where you find out they're in a serious circumstance and you're just pleasantly surprised they're still alive.
One of the things that’s always struck me as broken in big tech companies is how often there are products that millions of people use that deserve continued improvements that no one cares about while there are so many hot new projects with no meaningful shot at as much impact with dozens, hundreds or even thousands of people working on them. By the way Microsoft is pulling Wordpad from Windows because no one is working on it. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-is-killing-wordpad-in-windows-after-28-years/
Right now I’m a 10 Unfortunately that’s on the pain scale
A fun thing about covid reducing our visits to the U.K. to once per year is that it’s broken the frog-in-boiling-water-ness of it all and now every time I go back I’m shocked by obvious signs of decline
i don’t go to therapy to become emotionally healthy i go to therapy to fix my self esteem so i can be a findom and therefore afford to be a lady of leisure
The great thing about measuring developer productivity is that you can quickly identify the bad programmers. I want to tell you about the worst programmer I know, and why I fought to keep him in the team.

Every so often my brain reminds me of a conversation from long ago. Sometimes I’ll go for months without thinking about it, but then it’ll trigger, and I can’t stop thinking about it. It happened this week. Many years ago I taught technical courses for SAP in their London training centre. There’d often be moments during the day when the students were busy doing exercises and off-topic conversations would start. Here’s how one went down.

Twitter's new privacy policy takes effect 09/29/23, giving them the right to use your posts & all of your data to train musk's "AI." Elon Musk's. "AI." If you're still over there, now is the time to request your archived data, delete your posts, and stop using that site. view-source:https://twitter.com/en/privacy

Docker is not just a way of running programs on Linux without a virtual machine. Docker is 4 things.

I'm just a boy, standing in front of a software manufacturer, asking you to just write down the instructions instead of recording a video tutorial. Please. I beg.

If it helps, I'm technically reading my Mastodon feed through a feed reader, including Boosts using Bridgy Fed, an #IndieWeb tool, so it is possible, but don't think it'll work for folks as a standalone solution
